For heating work, depending on the application and heat requirement, a combination of a fuel gas (propane, acetylene, hydrogen, methane, etc.) with oxygen or a fuel gas alone is used (see propane equipment). For soldering work, a solder is heated up to the melting point. For brazing, this is also done with a fuelgas-oxygen flame and for soft soldering with a fuelgas flame with ambient air (see propane equipment).
